Meta announced a new round of massive layoffs on May 20, 2026, planning to cut about 10% of its global workforce (approximately 8,000 people) while transferring about 7,000 employees to new AI-focused projects. Meta's Chief People Officer said in an internal memo that the restructuring is to prioritize AI workflows and adopt a flatter organizational structure to improve efficiency and decision-making speed. This is Meta's largest layoff since 2023.
